Our spontaneous drama class!

The s and I were learning about how the snake tempted Eve in the Garden of Eden this morning and out of this lesson a production fit for Broadway was birthed!
The s spent the morning rehearsing for their show, decorating the set (note all the animals that are in our garden of Eden!), choosing costumes and even spent a while in hair and makeup! We had such fun today - see our finished movie!

Food for thought...

I am reading a great book right now - Educating the Wholehearted Child by Clay and Sally Clarkson - I've read it before, but it is truly one of those books a homeschooling Mom should re-read each year!
Anyway, reading through Chapter 8, subtitled 'Making it work', I was struck by this: "It will come because of your faithfulness - because you faithfully follow God's design for motherhood. Faithfulness is simply learning to see with God's eyes and seize with God's hands the hundreds of small opportunities you have every day to influence your children - to shape their values and attitudes, build their faith, discipline their disobedience, inspire their genius, nurture their emotions, train their habits, ivate their character and set their feet on the path of righteousness"..."The reality of homeschooling is that God is asking you to become a servant to your children, willing to sacrifice your time, energy , emotions and expectations for them. That takes more than natural strength - it takes strength. It takes the kind of faithfulness that comes only from trusting God and depending on His grace everyday"...."If you are trusting in the Lord and depending upon His grace, you can still accomplish your purposes as a mother".

I have been guilty all too often of trying to do this alone - and guess what...it's impossible! But with Christ all things are possible and I can do all things through Him who gives me strength. Lord help me let you help me...I can't do this alone and I need you more than I comprehend....

Crock pot - a week in review!

Well using the crock pot is fast becoming my favorite thing to do! It made my life so much easier on the days when I used it! Usually cooking time comes right around everyone being tired, grumpy, hungry and in the case of little Kemi, crying non stop for no apparent reason! So, having a hot meal ready and waiting to be served is wonderful!
This week's meals were a pasta dish and a curry dish. The pasta was edible, but not so nice that I would really consider using the crock pot again to make it, the trouble was that some of the pasta became hard and stuck to the crock pot and to tell the truth a pasta bake is not that hard of a dish to make the regular way so to me it isn't worth it!
The curry dish however was another story! It was a huge hit with all of us (except Tayo, but I wasn't surprised - she is never too fond of dishes with veggies mixed in!). It was creamy, a little spicy (I added a little more hot sauce than the recipe said!) and hearty served with some brown rice! I didn't have all the ingredients to hand so I just added the sweet potato and some green peas (during the last 30 mins of cooking so they didn't get too mushy) instead of the eggplant and green pepper, but it worked and I would say would work with whatever veggies you have on hand! This one is going on my meal rotation! Mom - Dad would like this one! ;-)

My new favorite blog!

I just love this blog! I found it a few weeks ago - imagine using your Crockpot everyday for a whole year! Well it is just full of great looking Crockpot recipes and now that I am busy with four kids, including a newborn, homeschooling and all that goes with this life of mine I plan on using my Crockpot more than ever!
We had this tonight and I plan on making this in a few days!
The pasta dish tonight was okay - not the most Cordon Bleu meal in the world but it was cooked and pretty tasty with very little effort on my part! Got to love that!

Our 'pet' Tornado!

Well despite having a new baby in the house we have been getting a fair bit of school done and we have just finished our Tornado lapbook. We used the unit found at homeschool share and had a great time doing it. Here are some pictures of our finished product. You can find instructions for making a pet tornado here.

Well there we were, all alone! The s off at a friend's house for a sleepover and the baby sleeping peacefully. The house was far to quiet, so Niyi and I decided that we just couldn't 't let a good opportunity for fun go by! It just had to be cookie baking time!
